Effective 15 November 2024, all sanctions applications, reporting forms and related queries should be directed to the Virgin Islands Sanctions Unit, under the responsibility of the Attorney General. This follows a six-month handover period between the Governor’s Office and the Virgin Islands Sanctions Unit culminating with the Governor’s delegation of relevant powers under Statutory Instrument No 49.

The establishment of a dedicated sanctions unit was announced in March 2024, against the backdrop of an unprecedented package of sanctions introduced against Russia after its invasion of Ukraine and the recommended actions in the Virgin Islands’ recent CFATF Mutual Evaluation Report.

Governor Daniel Pruce said ‘I’m pleased that the Virgin Islands Sanctions Unit is formally established. The last six months has been a great example of the Territory and the United Kingdom Government working together in a collaborative way. The unit demonstrates the commitment of the Virgin Islands to addressing major global challenges like the Russian invasion of Ukraine and human rights abuses worldwide through effective sanctions implementation.’

Attorney General, Honourable Dawn J. Smith stated that she looks forward to the continued support and collaboration of the United Kingdom Government in carrying out the responsibilities delegated to the competent authorities in the Virgin Islands under the Delegation Instrument.
