Press Release
The Government of the Virgin Islands has taken a wholistic approach to the Redevelopment of the Elmore Stoutt High School campus and invites the public to a stakeholder consultation to present the way forward.
The virtual meeting will be held to update all stakeholders on the redevelopment of the campus with priority on the immediate plans for the relocation of the senior school from the CTL building to the main campus.
The session will be hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture on Wednesday, January 19 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Hurricane Irma and Maria caused significant infrastructure damage to classrooms at the Elmore Stoutt High School campus in 2017. Students and staff were relocated to various temporary accommodations on Tortola as the Government worked to rehabilitate and upgrade the infrastructure on the campus.
The junior school students have since returned to the campus and are accommodated in the L-Shaped building that has been rehabilitated. The remaining students are located at the Old Clarence Thomas Limited (CTL) building.
The Government of the Virgin Islands through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture partnered with the Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) in June 2021 to provide a time sensitive solution for this requirement.
To date, the RDA has executed geotechnical investigations on the main campus; procured, evaluated and awarded the tender for the design consultancy to Trojan Design and Development Limited valued at $99,480; received nine tenders from local construction companies for the Demolition and Debris Clearance, and evaluated and awarded the contract to Sandwise Limited valued at $136,079.50 which was completed ahead of schedule.
The deadline for contractors to pre-qualify for the re-development of the Elmore Stoutt High School Campus is Monday, January 24 at 4:00 p.m. The key elements of the scope of works include the Construction of a Technical School Block, the Construction of Classrooms Block (North), the Construction of Classrooms Block (South) and the Construction of an Administrative Block. It is expected that the Invitations to tender for these works will be issued before the end of this month.
The RDA supports the Ministry of Education in the timely execution and delivery of this essential project to ensue more suitable accommodation for the Territory’s students.
