The Government of the Virgin Islands has received nine responses to its Requests for Proposals for the reconstruction of critical social and economic infrastructure.
The Central Tenders Board launched and received the proposals for consultancies to be funded by the Caribbean Development Bank’s (CDB) Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Loan (RRL) programme.
These projects are: Consulting Services for Design and Construction Supervision for the Reconstruction of the West End Ferry Terminal; and Consulting Services for Security - CCTV Surveillance; Engineering Design and Construction Management for Government Buildings.
Other responses for proposals received include the Rehabilitation of Roads, Slopes and Coastal Defenses, Consultancy Services for Engineering Design, Technical Specifications, Procurement and Construction Management for the Rehabilitation of the Water System, Consulting Services for the Audit of the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Project; Consulting Services for the Design and Contract Management related to the reestablishment of ICT Infrastructure: and Consulting Services for School Redevelopment on the Design and Construction Management of Eslyn Henley Richez Learning Center.
Deputy Financial Secretary and Chairman of the Central Tenders Board, Ms. Alva McCall stated that the preliminary work required by the CDB has been ongoing and that Government is getting to a stage in the process where infrastructure works should be able to begin in the near future.
Ms. McCall said the Central Tenders Board intends to maintain its momentum over the next few weeks as there are 4 more consultancies namely Department for Disaster Management (DDM) Equipment, CVA Consultant – Ports, Buildings, Roads and Costal Defences, Water System, Project Management – PMSC and School Rehabilitation Consultancy.
Ms. McCall said the board will be issuing Requests for Proposals under the RRL and Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE has signed agreements for the design and construction management for the National Emergency Operations Centre, the Sewage Infrastructure and for Psychosocial Support for Healthcare Professionals. In addition, public consultations for the DDM building will commence in mid-September.
To date, 6.4 Million USD, -which represents more than 80% of the total Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Loan (RRL) funds budgeted for consultancies have been contracted or tendered for consultancy services to prepare the design and technical specifications for 39 different construction works. The Ministry of Finance has also launched three (3) tenders for the procurement of goods related to school supplies and vehicles with more to follow.
