Grade 3 student Niomi Caines of the St. Georges Primary School and Akeela McMaster, a Grade 9 student of the Elmore Stoutt High School are the first place winners of the Ministry of Communications and Works’ Flood Awareness competition.
Caines won for the Primary division of the competition and was awarded a smartphone compliments of Digicel, while Akeela McMaster placed first in the Secondary division. She won an iPad Pro compliments of iSmart.
The other winners are Ni’Khoy Jones, a Grade 3 student of the Leonora Delville Primary School who placed second. He won an all-in-one printer, compliments of SAID Electronics. Grade 7 student Rayanna Depeza of the Elmore Stoutt High School won the second prize in the secondary school division and was awarded a Samsung J1 cellular phone compliments of CCT.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works, Mr. Andrew St. Hilaire and Project Director of Amec Foster Wheeler now Wood PLC, Dr. Nick Jarritt presented the winners with their prizes at a ceremony held today.
The Flood Awareness competition was extended to students from Grades 1 to 12 to be creative in spreading awareness about the importance of keeping the Territory’s drains clean.
Parents of the students as well as representatives from their schools were also present at the award ceremony.
