The Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre, the Territory’s first special education school, celebrated its 46th birthday on October 12.

Students commemorated the day by singing the happy birthday song.

The school was first established by the BVI Red Cross and opened its doors in 1972 as Fort Charlotte Children’s Centre at McNamara.

The two staff members at the time were Mrs. Eslyn Henley Richiez, the principal and Miss Alice Leonard, the janitor and helper. On March 13, 1998, Fort Charlotte Children’s Centre was officially renamed Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre in honour of its first principal.  (Video credit: Ronnielle Frazer/GIS)
