Electrical Inspection Unit
Release Date:
Wednesday, 30 September 2015 - 12:30pm

The Electrical Inspection Unit is notifying all electricians that effective October 5 all drawings must be available, when applying for mechanical ‘roughin’ inspections.

The unit says drawings must be available for the electrical inspector to accurately determine the square footage of the building in order to carry out a ‘roughin’ inspection.

This is in accordance with the statutory instruments 1999 NO.46 BVIE Ordinance (Cap 277) which states, “A consumer who intends to construct, extend or carry out works on a building of 1000 sq. ft. or more total floor space and 100 Amps or more service, shall submit for the approval of the Inspector, a copy of the electrical drawings for the building.”

Electricians applying for an initial inspection must present a detailed panel directory with the electrical inspection form at the time of scheduling the inspection. This panel directory should consist of the following information:

•           Owner/Agent
•           Address
•           Electrician/Contractor
•           Main Breaker size, Phase type, Main Conductor size
•           Mega Ohms
•           Panel Number/Name - This information should be in a table format

•           Location
•           Lights
•           Switches
•           Fans
•           REG Outlets
•           GFCI outlets
•           AC Units

Failure to adhere to these requests would result in penalties.
