The National Disaster Management Council (NDMC) held its annual meeting on Tuesday, June 28 to review reports and programme targets concerning the Territory’s disaster management programme.
During the meeting, NDMC Sub-Committee members delivered status updates on the action points for their individual programme areas and also highlighted the challenges faced at the strategic and operational levels.
NDMC Chair, His Excellency, Governor John S. Duncan, OBE and Deputy Chair, Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE both noted the significant progress and successes made by the various sub-committees over the past year andacknowledged that in some instances key strategic and policy issues must be addressed for significant progress to be realized in some of the programmeareas.
The NDMC is the body mandated to provide oversight of the Territory’s disaster management programme and is made up of the following sub-committees:- ‘Energy, Environment and Climate Adaptation’; ‘Health, Welfare and Social Services’; ‘Disaster Emergency Fund’; ‘Public Information and Awareness’; ‘Governance, Public Service and Sister Islands Coordination’; ‘Education and Information Management’; ‘Finance, Planning and Economic Development’ and ‘Transportation, Infrastructure, Early Warning and Emergency Communications’.
