The public is notified that as of July 9, at 7:00 p.m. until July 23, Imposition of Curfew (No.8) Order, 2021 is in effect between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily

During the curfew hours no person shall be on the streets, and every person shall remain confined to their place of residence.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie affirmed that the Curfew and other measures will not stop the progress that the Territory has made in the past 15 months.

He said, “The past 15 months have proven that the BVI can fight off COVID-19 when we work together. In the last 15 months, we were able to keep persons safe, and to keep most businesses in the position to be able to reopen and to provide jobs. We have been able to receive tourists since December 2020. We have been able to revive economic activity. And while the recent developments represent a serious and major setback to our aspirations, our commitment to taking this economy into overdrive has not changed. I am confident that we will get there.”

The Premier also reminded persons to do their part, starting with the basics of washing and sanitising hands, wearing masks, social distancing and also cooperating with the contact tracing and getting tested as necessary.

The curfew is not applicable to the Governor, Deputy Governor, Attorney General; Financial Secretary, Cabinet Secretary; Permanent Secretary, Auditor General, Director of Public Prosecutions, Accountant General, Clerk of the House of Assembly, Registrar of the Supreme Court, Managing Director of the Financial Services Commission, Director of the Financial Investigation Agency, and Director of the International Tax Authority, and essential staff of the offices of the above Government officers and statutory corporations who are required to report to work by such officers.

The curfew also does not apply to persons employed in the essential services as defined in Section 3 of the Labour Code, 2010, who are on duty, when traveling to or returning from duty, including persons employed for: waste management services; fuel distribution and delivery services; mortuary services; humanitarian support purposes; freight, courier and cargo distribution; veterinary services; transportation services; emergency household and business repairs; and sanitisation, insect, mold and bug control.

Other exceptions are made for officers of private security service providers, Customs and Immigration officers, Judges and Magistrates and other persons employed in the Courts, emergency call handlers, media and broadcast providers, public and private sector social care providers, supermarkets providing services to and for essential and critical operations, persons engaged bona fide farming, agriculture or fisheries with urgent need to care for animals, teachers in public and private schools who attend their institutions for the sole purpose of accessing resources for on-line instruction, persons who are traveling en route to or from a port or airport, (without a detour) for the purpose of entering or leaving the Territory.
