Press Release
Residents in the Virgin Islands now have access to timely statistical data on topics such as employment and birth and death rates.
The Central Statistics Office launched its live statistics page on the Government website where persons can also access consumer price index and tourism data statistics.
Director of Central Statistics, Mr. Raymond Phillips said the public can visit the page at www.bvi.gov.vg/statistics to obtain accurate and timely information.
He said, “We consider this to be important progress made in being able to provide statistical information to the public. Data is regularly updated to the site and it is constantly populated with information.”
Mr. Phillips added that the new statistical page speaks to the department’s goal of being the primary source of statistical information in the Virgin Islands and being equipped to meet the needs of our clients in the provision of timely and accurate information.
The director stated that the department received more than 250 requests in 2015 for data or statistical information. He said the statistics can be used for research projects by students, expansion or development of business management services by small and medium enterprises and for informed decision making by the community.
Tables are still being uploaded, and a request for information can be made to the department at 468-2175 if a specific table is needed and cannot be found on the website.
The Central Statistics Office is mandated to monitor, research, and report on the performance of the Virgin Islands’ economy in all important aspects including output, growth, income and employment, interest rates, prices, and short-term and long-term structural changes.
