Ms. Carlene Herbert has been appointed Supervisor of Elections effective 10th March.

Ms. Herbert joins the Public Service with more than 20 years of experience in governance, administration and communications within the public sector.

Deputy Governor, Mr. David D. Archer, Jr. welcomed Ms. Herbert to the role, noting that the Office of the Supervisor of Elections carries out critical functions that oversee the maintenance of the Territory’s democratic foundations; the electoral process.

The Deputy Governor said, “I am proud to welcome Ms. Carlene Herbert to the role of Supervisor of Elections. Managing elections in the Virgin Islands is no small task, but I am confident in Ms. Herbert’s ability to succeed in this important position. My office, the Public Service and I are fully committed to working alongside her as she fulfills this vital role in our community.”

Ms. Herbert’s academic achievements includes dual Associates of Science degrees in Business Administration (General Business Concentration) and Corporate and Trust Administration, both from the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. She has also earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication from the University of Phoenix, as well as a Bachelor of Laws (Upper Second Class Honours) from the University of Essex.

Ms. Herbert said she was grateful for the opportunity to serve. She said,  “I am truly honoured and excited for this opportunity to serve my country in this role and I am committed to ensuring the continued development and success of elections administration in the Territory.”

As Supervisor of Elections, Ms. Herbert will ensure the effective and efficient management of the Office of the Supervisor of Elections, including the maintenance of the Register of Voters and other related elections administration duties.

Ms. Herbert assumes this role following the transition of former Supervisor of Elections, Ms. Scherrie Griffin to the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Permanent Secretary, Ms. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE said, “During her time, Ms. Griffin provided stellar leadership to the Office of the Supervisor of Elections. We are immensely grateful for her efforts and wish her the very best as she transitions onward.”

The Government of the Virgin Islands remains committed to the advancement of elections administration within the Virgin Islands.
