The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) recently hosted its inaugural Career Expo to showcase career paths available at the corporation and engage the public in discussions about the future of energy in the Virgin Islands

The expo featured interactive displays, live demonstrations by line-workers, and opportunities for attendees to engage directly with the corporation’s professionals. This initiative showcased current advancements within the company and also aimed to inspire young individuals to consider careers in technical fields such as engineering, data analytics, and renewable energy technologies. 

Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer, emphasised the significance of the expo, stating, “This event is not just about job opportunities; it is about empowering our youth and equipping them with the skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.” His remarks also highlighted the government’s commitment to fostering innovation and excellence within the workforce. 

General Manager of BVI Electricity Corporation Dr. Neil M. Smith said the corporation is investing in a workforce that will be ready to meet the challenges of the future.

Dr. Smith added, “Our goal is to integrate renewable energy solutions and enhance service quality through advanced technologies.”  

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works, Mrs. Elvia Smith-Maduro said that the expo marked a significant step towards building a more skilled and dynamic workforce that would support the ongoing development of the Virgin Islands' economy.

“The commitment from both government officials and the corporation’s management reflects a shared vision for a sustainable energy future,” Mrs. Smith-Maduro said.

The Ministry of Communications and Works remains dedicated to ensuring the continued development and maintenance of public infrastructure in keeping with international standards so that public utilities are reliable and affordable in support of an enhanced community life for every resident and visitor in the Virgin Islands.
