The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands has issued a mandatory curfew for residents of the BVI with the exception of essential workers from March 27 to April 2.

The curfew was issued on March 25 after the announcement of two confirmed positive imported cases of COVID-19 in the Territory.

The curfew was also issued in an effort to control, suppress or prevent the spread of COVID-19. The mandatory curfew will begin from Friday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m. to Thursday, April 2 on 6:00 a.m. Persons defined as essential workers in section 3 of the Order are exempted from the curfew while they are on duty. The essential services list is as follows:

• officers of private security service providers as defined in section 2 of the Private Security Industry Act, 2007, if they are on duty
• customs and immigration officers, if they are on duty;
• public and private sector waste management services;
• fuel distribution and delivery services;
• public and private sector social care providers;
• Courts (Senior Magistrate and Coroner);
• mortuary services;
• humanitarian support;
• emergency call handlers;
• freight, courier and cargo distribution;
• Apostille and related statutory services;  
• laundry services;
• media and broadcast providers;
• farming, agriculture, fisheries and veterinary service;
• transportation services (providing transportation for essential and critical operations);
• supermarkets and restaurants (providing services to and for essential and critical operations); and
•  health and emergency operations centre.
