The British Virgin Islands in collaborations with the Caribbean Telecommunications Unions (CTU)will be hosting a regional conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Week in the Territory commencing September 28.

Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool, said that he is delighted that the British Virgin Islands is hosting the annual event and is hopeful that the seminars will bring about new action plans regarding telecommunications in the Virgin Islands.

Honourable Vanterpool said, “I recognise the importance of technology to the development of the region and consequently the need for our islands to promote advancements and keep on the cutting edge of the industry.”

He added, “There is no doubt that we can learn a lot from each other during these meetings in terms of how we can work together to take full advantage of the recent advances in information technology, in particular, the Internet, which has resulted in the world becoming a global village.”

The week, will be sponsored by Huawei, LIME, Digicel BVI and CCT, and is expected to be filled with insightful conversations regarding telecommunications within the region. An open Ministerial Seminar will also take place on September 30 at Maria’s by the Sea. The Seminar is being held under the theme “Kick-starting the CARICOM Single ICT Space by Accelerating e-Government Services,”and is in line with what the CTU states,that e-Government services are critical to moving forward with the implementation of the Single ICT Space.
