Chief Executive Officer of the BVI Health Services Authority, Dr. Ronald Georges has said that the BVI Health Services Authority is making preparations for its accreditation review scheduled for later this year.

Dr. Georges said, “We started our accreditation journey in 2016.  Right now we are finalizing our policies, procedures and the environment to be ready for our assessment in September.”

The Chief Executive Officer said accreditation can improve the hospital’s professional standing and community image, potentially affect financial reimbursement for services provided to patients and most importantly, reflect the authority’s dedication to providing top-quality patient care.

In preparation for accreditation, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) consultants Bio-Medical Engineer, Mr. Hugo Martinez and Director of Engineering at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, Ms. Paula Agbowu visited the hospital from June 17 to 21 to assess the facility and to conduct system checks.

Ms. Agbowu explained, “We are reviewing the hospital to look at infrastructure, facilities, equipment and to advise on any gaps that may keep the BVIHSA from achieving accreditation.”

Based on early assessments of the facility, Ms. Agbowu said the Peebles Hospital is well equipped; however, the institution should not rest on its laurels but strive to maintain standards and be consistent.

Following the assessment, the staff of the Infrastructure Department at the hospital was debriefed and given best practice recommendations and tips to assist with accreditation readiness.

BVI Health Services Authority is committed to delivering excellent, compassionate, client centered healthcare across the Territory.
