Women and girls of all ages are invited to an Information Fair in observation of International Women’s Day on March 8.

Gender Affairs Coordinator, Ms. Tara Sue Morgan said the fair will be held at the New Peebles Hospital Veranda at 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon under the theme, ‘Women’s Importance in the Press for Progress’.

The event is being spearheaded by Office of Gender Affairs in collaboration with Zonta International whose mission is gender equality and empowering women.

Ms. Morgan explained that following the disasters of 2017, the theme is fitting to empower and encourage women on critical issues such as health and wealth in the pursuit for self-improvement.

Several activities are slated including presentations from Dr. Virginia Rubaine of the Community Mental Health Services, Ms. Marva Titley of Zonta and Mrs. Rhonda Hodge Smith of the Financial Service Commission. Officers from other agencies including CCT, the Family Support Network and the Housing Recovery Assistance Unit will be present to provide giveaways and housing assistance information.

International Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8 to recognise the contributions of women in all their diversities.

The Office of Gender Affairs under the umbrella of the Ministry of Health and Social Development is responsible for raising awareness on gender related matters including women’s issues and implementing policies related to gender equality and equity.
