Payments for services rendered by the Government of the Virgin Islands are being accepted through remote processing.

Acting Accountant General, Ms. Laurel Smith said customers can email their credit/debit card information along with an authorisation form and a valid form of identification to the department for processing of payment.

Ms. Smith added, “If the credit/debit card holder is not the individual completing the authorisation form, a letter authorising the use of the card must be submitted from the card holder.”

Another option for fee payment by customers is to credit the Government’s operating account at CIBC First Caribbean International Bank by means of a wire transfer, which will then be credited to the relevant department.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is currently working on e-Government legislation that will guide the policy and framework for accepting payments online. In the interim, these remote payment options allow for the receipt of payment while still ensuring that social distancing guidelines are met to protect customers and public officers against contracting COVID-19.

These measures are also in keeping with Government’s phased approach to the rebooting and reawakening of the BVI’s economy.
