Ms. April Glasgow will represent the Virgin Islands and other Overseas Territories at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) International Leadership Programme (ILP) in November.

Ms. Glasgow will be the first ever Overseas Territory delegate to participate in the ten-day leadership programme designed to create and develop lasting relationships with future leaders who may have an impact on the UK’s global interests. The programme is shaped according to the broad interests of the group and includes a range of visits, discussions and meetings with senior UK decision makers and opinion formers, in Government, Parliament, the media, civil society, education and business industries.

Nominations for the ILP saw 187 nominations from 103 British Diplomatic Posts around the world for the 60 available places.

His Excellency the Governor Augustus Jaspert congratulated Ms. Glasgow on her achievement and stated that her upcoming participation in the FCO’s International Leadership Programme as the first Overseas Territory delegate is a profound accomplishment for the Virgin Islands and provides an opportunity for professional advancement and networking opportunities with leaders from around the world.

Governor Jaspert said, “I encourage you to take advantage of the journey that you will embark on and seek out every opportunity to expand your knowledge in the communications field in an effort to make significant contributions towards the development of the Territory.”

Ms. Glasgow in her response said that she is looking forward to learn more about the other emerging leaders. “I know that I will be around some impressive individuals from youth activists to journalists. I hope to network with these leaders to help gain more awareness for BVI and our diversity of talent,” Ms. Glasqow added.

The International Leadership Programme was launched in March 2013 and is the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s flagship visit programme designed to create and develop lasting relationships with future leaders who may have an impact on the UK’s global interests. With a global alumnus of over 300 people, the programme focuses on the quality of the nominees, particularly leadership potential.  Ms. Glasgow will be blogging about her ILP experience through social media at: @apriltiaglasgow on Instagram and @AprilTGlasgow on Twitter.
