The Anegada Clinic will be dedicated and renamed in honour of Nurse Romalia Smith, as a tribute to her enormous sacrificial contributions to the health sector and the Anegada community.

The decision was made by the Cabinet of the Virgin Islands as part of an on-going initiative to dedicate public health facilities in honour of community stalwarts who have contributed significantly to the BVI health sector.

A committee was set up to identify, consider and make recommendations for the renaming of the Anegada Clinic, which consisted of four community members with diverse backgrounds and perspectives from Anegada.

Based on the committee’s recommendation, the public was invited for feedback. There were 25 responses and 23 of them were in favor of the renaming.

The renaming and dedication ceremony is slated for Monday, January 21 to begin at 10:00 a.m. The Ministry of Health and Social Development extends gratitude to the residents of Anegada for their participation in giving feedback that assisted in the decision-making process. The entire Anegada community is invited to the renaming ceremony to mark this historical milestone for the entire Virgin Islands.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development aspires to provide a caring and integrated system of health and social services that facilitates human development and improves the quality of life in the Virgin Islands.
