Public Library Service of the Virgin Islands

The Public Library Services was established under the Public Library Services Ordinance in 1974 to be the legal depository for all government annual and departmental publications, and any other publication published in the Virgin Islands. The Public Library Services evolved from being just one library established by Mr. T. D. Green in 1943 in the J.E.W.

Virgin Gorda Book Club

Purpose: To provide a forum for persons who love to read the ability to get together to discuss interesting books and other literary works in a relaxed atmosphere.

Benefits to the library:

• To expand adult readership

• To have the library known not just as a place for borrowing books

• To have the library known as a place to meet people

• To provide members with a group setting to view books that have been made into movies

Anegada Library Outreach Programme to primary school

This service is provided by the Public library for primary students from the Claudia Creque Educational Centre on the island of Anegada. The Library provides transportation for teachers and students to visit the library to borrow books every two weeks. The programme runs for the entire academic year. The objective of this programme is to improve reading and literacy, as well as to encourage students to foster a love for reading.

Virgin Gorda Library Outreach Programme to primary school

This service is provided by the Public library for primary students from the Bregado Flax Primary School on the island of Virgin Gorda. The Library provides transportation for teachers and students to visit the library to borrow books every two weeks. The programme runs for the entire academic year. The objective of this programme is to improve reading and literacy, as well as to encourage students to foster a love for reading.

Outreach Programme to Senior Citizens Centres in Tortola

The objective of the programme is to engage seniors in an interactive programme where they will be involved in a variety of enrichment activities such as: health talks, exercises, reading, singing and group discussions.
