STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR’S OFFICE ON THE
DEATH OF FORMER GOVERNOR OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS PETER PENFOLD
The Governor’s Office is sad to announce the death of Former Governor of the British Virgin Islands Peter Penfold CMG OBE, who passed away on October 1st 2023.
Born on February 27 1944, Penfold’s career in diplomacy began in 1963 when he joined the British Foreign Service. He served in various capacities and with postings in West Germany, Nigeria, Mexico, and Sierra Leone.
Penfold was Governor of the British Virgin Islands from 1991-1996, at the age of 48 this made him the youngest serving British governor.
The British Virgin Islands held a special place in Penfold’s heart as it was here that he married wife Celia.
