Public and private school educators throughout the Territory will sharpen their teaching skills at a one day forum on Thursday.

The educations will attend the Ministry of Education and Culture’s annual Professional Development Day at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College campus at 9:00 a.m. The day’s proceedings will be streamed to a second location in Virgin Gorda.

Acting Chief Education Officer, Mrs. Connie George said that Professional Development Day is geared towards sharpening teaching skills and boosting teachers’ development and morale during the school year.

Mrs. George said, “A two-session presentation will be conducted by Educational Speaker, Dr. Danny Brassell who will aid in providing teachers with tips to stimulate students’ interest in learning.”

The day’s event will be chaired by President of the BVI Reading Council, Ms. Kirima Forbes.

Dr. Danny Brassell will conduct two presentations titled, ‘A Baker’s Dozen of Lessons Learned from the Teaching Trenches’ and ‘Dare to Differentiate: 50 Terrific Teacher Tricks’, which will focus on every day teaching challenges, attitudes and expectations in the classrooms to shape overall success. He will also share his own trials and tribulations in the classroom and his secret to good teaching.

Dr. Danny Brassell’s web site says he has served as an educational advisor to students ranging from pre-schoolers to rocket scientists, and that while he has held a variety of titles and worked with leaders from a variety of fields and disciplines, he has always considered himself first and foremost a teacher.
