Effective today, the incinerator will operate from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily.

The extension of the hours of operation is based on the public’s feedback following a six month review conducted by the Department of Waste Management.

The incinerator which once opened to the public 24 hours day, experienced technical issues associated with its hours of operation. Management revised the hours of operations to improve site security, dumpsite maintenance and improve data collection.

Manager for the Department of Waste Management, Mr. Greg Massicote said. “Since we implemented our new operation hours we have received quite a bit of feedback from the public and based on the feedback and assessment made over the last six months, we have found it in the best interest of the public to extend our hours of operation.”

Mr. Massicote said that various mechanisms have been put in in place to ensure that proper security, data collection and dumpsite maintenance are upheld.

The public is asked to fully cooperate with the department and adhere to the new hours of operation guidelines. Persons with questions and concerns can call the department at at 468-4934 or via email at

The Department of Waste Management is committed to ensuring that the natural beauty of the Territory is enhanced by  utilising state of the art waste management technology to ensure timely collection disposal and where possible the recycling of waste.
