The Environmental Health Division is reminding all food establishment personnel to promote sanitary maintenance of the establishment by enforcing a strict “No pets allowed" directive in accordance with public health requirements.
Acting Chief Environmental Health Officer, Mrs. Yolanda Penn said, “In food businesses and restaurants the goal is to maintain conditions that minimise risks to the sanitation of establishments, as part of maintaining a sanitary environment, and protecting food and the health of individuals.
Mrs. Penn reaffirmed that pets in open dining rooms are not to be allowed and signs should be used to help with compliance.
She added, “Animals can contribute to unsanitary food premises and therefore the community has a role to play by discontinuing the feeding of stray animals such as chickens, cats, or dogs on these premises.
The Environmental Health Division is committed to ensuring that all aspects of the environment with the potential to negatively impact health are managed efficiently to enable all persons in the BVI to attain and maintain optimal health and social well-being.
