Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Honourable Kye Rymer is currently representing the Territory at the 4th Caribbean Infrastructure Forum (CARIF 2020) being held in Jamaica on January 21 and 22.

Honourable Rymer has joined Prime Minister of Jamaica, Honourable Andrew Michael Holness; Minister of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure, Cayman Islands Government, Honourable Joseph Hew and address the forum.

Honourable Rymer will also share with other panelists on the topic ‘Island Jurisdictions: How to Promote Greater Resilience in the Face of Climate Change.’ The sub-questions and discussion will cover:

  • How the BVI is rebuilding after the storm, two years on
  • The Bahama's stategy for rebuilding and how it can be supported
  • Alternative insurance vehicles such as Catastophe (CAT) bonds and insurance linked securities increasing access to coverage for islands
  • The relationship between insurance penetration and recovery 
  • Whether islands are prepared in the event of another significant storm, and the business case for resilient building. 

The panelists will include Investment Officer, Operations in Latin America and Caribbean from the European Investment Bank (EIB) Andrea Popescu; Gillian Charles-Gollop, Executive Director, Corporate Investment Banking & Advisory, FirstCaribbean International Bank CIBC.

The Caribbean Infrastructure Forum (CARIF), now in its fourth year continues to be the leading event for the infrastructure and energy markets in the region. This event brings together the leading figures from both worlds, infrastructure, energy, banks, investors, and multilaterals financing the development.
