The public is invited to take the following measures to avoid food borne illnesses this holiday season.
Wash hands thoroughly and rinse with clean warm running water before preparing food.
Separate raw and cooked foods to avoid the transfer of bacteria.
Clean and sanitise food preparation areas and equipment by using one tablespoon of household bleach to a gallon of water to wipe counter tops.
If using cutting boards, use a separate sanitised board for raw foods, cooked foods, fruits and vegetables.
Remember when shopping; do not place raw meat, eggs, fish and poultry with vegetables, fruits and ready to eat foods in the same area of the cart or shopping bag.
