OUR MISSION STATEMENT

It is the aim of the Marine Safety Investigation & Reporting Authority to carry out investigations to determine the causes of accidents at sea, publish reports that include recommendations on improving safety at sea, increasing awareness of how marine accidents happen and improving national and international co-operation in marine accident investigations.

OUR PRIORITIES

Our priorities are to:

  • establish, then maintain MSIRA’s position as one of the world’s leading safety investigation organisations
  • contribute to improved maritime safety and discharge the Authority’s national and international obligations by: conducting thorough marine safety investigations and; publishing its reports in the shortest possible time
  • help set standards in marine accident investigation by following best practice and asking those we work with to do the same
  • provide our staff with regular specialised training to ensure the expertise required to conduct effective marine safety investigations is up to date
