As Governor of these Virgin Islands, I am grateful to be here today to carry out my constitutional responsibilities on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second in delivering the Speech from the Throne.

We note the Press Notice issued on 4th January, 2022 from the Commission of Inquiry (COI), announcing a further three-month delay to the COI’s report.   

Last January my predecessor launched the Commission of Inquiry into increasing concerns about poor governance, potential corruption and alleged serious dishonesty.

The year 2021, has been a year of highs and lows for the Virgin Islands as we continue to battle unprecedented challenges.  that are not of our making and for the most part beyond our control, originating far beyond our shores. But, our indomitable spirit and sense of community, which are among our greatest strengths as Virgin Islanders, have supported us through these tough times.

Good Day residents of the Virgin Islands, a happy holiday season to all. 

Today, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Social Development, itis for us to inform you of the continued rise in cases in the current outbreak of COVID-19 in the Virgin Islands. 

In August 2020, during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) made the tough decision to reduce the hours worked by its hourly paid staff, as the operational needs of the organisation reduced. As a result, these employees’ salaries were affected because they were only paid for the hours worked and they took home less than they would have under normal circumstances.

Today, the Ministry of Health and Social Development is informing the public of the continued rise in cases in the current outbreak of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the Territory.
