In January, 2020 the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of the new Coronavirus disease in Hubei Province, China to be a public health emergency of international concern.

Public Officers of the Virgin Islands, Many of you would be making final preparations within your departments and agencies to participate in the Caribe Wave exercise on March 19. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak around the world, we have decided that the exercise will no longer include an evacuation component.

The safety and wellbeing of our Virgin Islands people and residents are your Government's highest priority as we continue to monitor regional and international developments with respect to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and to implement precautionary measures to prevent the virus from getting across our borders.

Following my statement last night on the response of the Government to COVID-19, this morning I chaired a special meeting of Cabinet.

Around the world, the Coronavirus COVID-19 continues to spread. While we do not have any confirmed cases in the Territory, Government has taken the approach that the detection, containment, mitigation and management of this Coronavirus remains a national priority.
