Acting in accordance with Section 5 of the Public Holidays Act (Cap 199), as amended, Cabinet has approved the following public holidays for 2016:

The environmental and agricultural benefits of the Sargassum seaweed will be highlighted in a public education campaign to be launched by the Conservation and Fisheries Department. 

The Virgin Islands Youth Parliament which was established to create leadership skills and competencies in the Territory’s youth was officially launched today, October 2.

The Territory will soon improve its capacity to restore coral reefs following Cabinet’s approval of the development of Coral Reef Restoration Nurseries throughout the BVI’s fishing waters.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development today launched their information campaign to educate the public about the function of the Parole Board and its impact on the community.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Ronnie Skelton has signed an agreement to provide access to thousands of preferred healthcare providers overseas including members within the Territory.        

The Virgin Islands continue to experience drought conditions with a significant reduction in rainfall recorded throughout the Territory.

Students of Grades 5 and 6 of the Leonora Delville and Isabella Morris Primary Schools were engaged in activities on how to properly use and dispose of pesticides as part of Pesticides Awareness Week. 

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on September 30 solidifying a partnership in bringing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the Caribbean.

The simulation exercise which tested the responses of emergency personnel in the event of a crash at the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport has been called a success.
