Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron Walwyn has said the Territory needs everyone to do their part to help in the rebuilding process and has called on residents to assist in the exercise.

The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has offered to accept senior students from the BVI Secondary Schools to continue their education in that country.

Premier and Minister for Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE addressed leaders of the Territory’s financial services industry today at an update meeting hosted by BVI Finance.

All business owners are notified that special measures have been put in place to accommodate the entry of skilled workers to aid in relief activity.

Plans are being made to review and upgrade the Territory’s building codes following the devastating impact of Hurricane Irma.

Residents in the British Virgin Islands are reminded to take measures, wherever possible, to reduce their carbon footprint and reduce global warming. 

Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Ronnie Skelton has said that the Peebles Hospital was built to withstand category 5 hurricanes and earthquakes measuring 7 on the Richter scale.

Residents of the Virgin Islands are urged to support efforts to minimise mosquito breeding in the Territory.

At 11:00 p.m. the eye of Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 17.4 North, longitude 61.1 West. Irma has now taken a west-northwest track near 15 mph, and this motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.
