Role Summary

The successful applicant will manage the development of curricula for primary and secondary schools and provide professional and technical support for teachers efficiently to ensure the objectives of the National Curriculum Project are met.

Main Responsibilities

1. Lead the smooth and efficient operation of the Department through management of daily operations, supervision of assigned staff and ensure that the goals and objectives of the National Curriculum Project are met.
2. Develop an effective strategic curriculum redesign plan and recommend effective operations of all functional areas of the education system that impact the implanted curriculum efficiently.
3. Advise Government of the administration needs of the programme and produce the Executive Council Paper and other supporting documents to secure Council’s approval for the design and conduct of the Project.
4. Identify and secure the services of quality Human Resources and ensure the effective utilization of their talents.
5. Coordinate, manage and direct all aspects of the project, including ensuring the direct and meaningful involvement of the key stakeholders in all aspects of the project as well as its effective marketing in a professional and efficient manner.
6. Refine the quality of the curriculum products and field test the new products in an integrated manner in conjunction with active teaching and learning efficiently.
7. Request extant data from the Ministry and Department to ensure establishment of accurate baseline data.
8. Conduct research to ensure empirical approach to project design, development and management.
9. Communicate the phases of the project to those that are charged with the task of approving it prior to commencement in a timely manner.
10. Prepare the Project’s annual budget and manage the Project’s financial resources in accordance with existing policy and practice to ensure that all financial obligations are met in a timely and efficient manner.
11. Develop and manage the linkages between the project, the Ministry and all other stakeholder groups, in order to enhance the relevance dimension of the project as well as the level of buy-in to the project.
12. Offer best practice oriented proposals for the significant improvement of the Education System’s organizational structure and operating systems at the central and school levels as a mean of empowering teaching and learning in the BVI.
13. Perform any other related duties as required by Supervisor or any other senior officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Education Administration with a concentration in Curriculum Development
Eight (8) to ten (10) years working experience in a related area
Expert knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures
Expert knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, procedures and policies
Sound knowledge of the curriculum redesign / renewal
Sound knowledge of effective structure and functioning of Education systems
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good knowledge of the use of standard office equipment and computer applications
Expert analytical and decision-making skills
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Excellent leadership and management skills
