Fire Officer

The successful applicant will respond to emergency situations and inspect equipment, structures and businesses to ensure the health and safety of others in the Territory.

Emergency and Non-Emergency Services

The six types of Incidents that the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service commonly responds to are:

  1. Fire Suppression Operations
  2. Rescue Operations (Water Rescue, Urban Search, Rescue)
  3. Medical Response and Transport
  4. Road Traffic Accidents
  5. False Alarms
  6. Special Services

Special Services are classed into two categories, Chargeable and Free services.

We currently have a total of 58 Fire Officers. 48 of them work directly in responding to emergencies. The other 10 work in administration, but also respond to emergencies when needed.

There are seven (7) Fire Stations in the Virgin Islands. They are located in Beef Island, Anegada, Virgin Gorda, East End, Road Town, Cappoons Bay and Jost Van Dyke.

The Fire Station in Beef Island operates under the auspices of the BVI Airports Authority. The other six (6) stations belong to the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Transportation, Works and Utilities.


You must be at least 18 years old and no older than 35 years old.

Step 1: Submit completed Application Form to Fire Headquarters; await response.

Step 2: If you are not eligible for employment, you will be informed. If you are eligible, you will be scheduled to take a written exam.
