Before it happens! Timing is everything in the news business. If you contact us after the fact, it is usually too late to garner media interest. The more time we have in advance of the news, the more effective we can be. Public Relations can work with you to determine if external media may be interested and to plan an appropriate outreach strategy. If you contact us with news at the last minute, we may still be able to help, but we ask that you bear in mind that much of the news coverage that we read, see or hear was planned well in advance.

The Department of Information and Public Relations shares news and information with the media in a variety of ways as it relates to each story. Information Officers write news releases, bulletins and press advisories.  We may also contact key reporters and editors directly to share news and information based on the individual story or event.

The Department of Information and Public Relations, the Government Information Service (GIS), is committed to providing the public full and timely information on the functions and activities of the Virgin Islands Government, its departments and divisions, statutory boards and committees.

The Department of Information and Public Relations in an effort to keep the public well informed, publishes a number of periodicals and general information pamphlets, which are available at the office or accessed online.
